ஆகியிருக்கின்றான்; பொன்னாத்தாள், பொன்ஸ் ஆகியிருக்கின்றாள்;

creative thoughts-5

Creative thoughts-5 (26-th July 2010)

1.A thought to think

Things which are used excessively will lose its credits,if
they are used less,they will be useless after sometime.
This is true for everything even to our knowledge.

2.Recreational mathematics
Divisibility test

Here is an unique method to test the divisibility of any
multi-digit numbers by any multi-digit divisors.

A divisor (D) has one characteristic feature called smallest
index multiplier I. Its higher index (I') multipliers are the sum of the
smallest index multiplier and any multiples of the divisor
                         I' = I + nD
It is simple to find out I for any D.For example let the
divisor be 6.Few multiples of 6 are 12,18,24,30,36......Now
find out which number when multiplied with the block number
of them excluding the digit of units and added with it gives
again a multiple of the divisor.
1x4+2 =6; lx4+8=12; 2x4+4=12 ;3x4+0 =12; 3x4+6=18
That is for the divisor 6, 4 is its smallest index multiplier and its
higher index multipliers are 10,16,22.... which are simply denoted
by (4+6n). It is noted that the index multiplier for the divisor 6 is
independent of the way by which the given number under test
is separated into right and left blocks.e.g.,117876

d=l;       6 + 4x11787  = 47154 = 6 x 7859
d=2;    76 + 4x1178    =   4788 = 6 x 798
d=3;  876 + 4x117      =   1344 = 6 x 224
d=4;7876 + 4x11        =   7920 = 6 x 1320

For some other divisors, the index multiplier will be different
according to the number of digits in the left block number
after separation.

This method can be used for testing the divisibility of the given
number however big it is. By repeatedly doing this process,
the given number can be reduced smaller convenient for testing.
In the above typical example 117876,
      step.1:   6 + 4 x 11787 = 47154 = 6 x 7859
      step.2:   4 + 4 x 4715   = 18864 = 6 x 3144
      step.3:   4 + 4 x 1886   =   7548 = 6 x 1258
      step.4:   8 + 4 x   754   =   3024 = 6 x   504
      step.5:   4 + 4 x   302   =   1212 = 6 x   202
      step.6:   2 + 4 x   121   =     486 = 6 x     81
      step.7:   6 + 4 x     48   =     198 = 6 x     33
      step.8:   8 x 4 x     19   =       84 = 6 x     14
However this process is laborious. To reduce a bigger number
under testing into a conveniently smaller number one can subtract
any multiples of the divisor either from the right or from the left
or from the both block numbers.It is exemplified with the same
example. Instead of taking 6 + 4 x 11787, the bigger multiplicand
is conveniently reduced by  subtracting 6x. To predict a bigger
number which is divisible by 6 and  closest to the multiplicand
it must be even and its digital root must be three.This is achieved
by attaching 4 with 1178, that is 11784 is closest to 11787 and is a
multiple of 6 as well. Hence
6 + 4 (11787 - 11784) = 6 + 4 x 3 = 18 = 6 x 3
Similarly instead of taking 7876 + 4 x 11, we can consider
(7876-7872) + 4 x 11 = 4 + 44 = 48 = 6 x 8
Reducting of digit can also be used for this purpose. Any digit
greater than 6 in the bigger multiplicand can be reduced by 6. It helps
to reduce the multiplicand conveniently to a smaller number within no
time.In the same typical example,
6 + 4 x 11787 --> 6 + 4 x 5121 (using 11-6=5,7-6=1;8-6=2)
6 + 4 x 5121 --> 6 + 4 x 303 (using 21-18=03,51-48=3)
6 + 4 x  303 --> 6 + 4 x 3 (using 30-30 =0) 18 =6 x 3
The table given below gives the values of lowest positive index
multiplier for the summation with the last two digit block number
of the given number under divisibility test.

ALL ABOUT CUBE NUMBERS

Creative thoughts-4 (14 th July 2010)

1.A thought to think

The beauty of any outer space is the embeded objects within it while the beauty of any inner space is the embeded thoughts.

This is the information broadcast non-stop by our universe. It means that our universe and its structure both macro and micro are eternal.

2.Recreational mathematics

Any number (n) multiplied twice by itself gives a cube number (n³). n³ = n x n x n

1,8,27,64,125,216,343,512,729........ are the first few cube numbers.

The cube numbers have many fascinating mathematical properties. Some of them are illustrated here.Unlike the square numbers, the cube numbers can end with any digit from 1 to 9. However, its digital root can take only any one of the three values 1,8, 9. ( Digital root of a number is the sum of all the digits of the number reduced to single digit by similar repeated operations ).

4³ = 64 ; 6+ 4 = 10; 1+ 0 = 1 5³ = 125 ; 1+2+5 = 8 6³ = 216 ; 2+1+6 = 9

I f a cube number ends with 1,4,5,6, or 9 , its cube root will also be ending with the same number.

11³ = 1331 ; 21³ = 9261 ; 31³ = 29791 14³ = 2744 ; 24³ = 13824 ; 34³ = 39304 15³ = 3375 ; 25³ = 15625 ; 25³ = 42875 16³ = 4096 ; 26³ = l1576 ; 36³ = 46656 19³ = 6859 ; 29³ = 24389; 39³ = 59319

Cube numbers can be obtained by multiplying any three successive numbers in natural series and adding the middle number with the product.

0 x1 x 2 + 1 = 1 = 1³ 1 x 2 x 3 + 2 = 8 = 2³ 2 x 3 x 4 + 3 = 27 = 3³ 3 x 4 x 5 + 4 = 64 = 4³

Generalizing this property we get , ( n -1)n (n+ l) + n = n³

A cube number (n) can be expressed as the sum of n successive odd numbers, which begin from [n² -(n-1)] and end with [ n² + (n-1].

1³ = 1 2³ = 3+5 = (2² -l) + (2² +l) 3³ = 7 +9 + 11 = (3² -2) + 3² + (3² + 2) 4³ = 13 + 15 + 17 + 19 = (4² -3) + (4² -1) +(4²+ 1) + (4² +3)

It can also be shown as a sum of n successive even numbers along with its root, where the series of even numbers begins with (n-1)n and ends with (n-1)(n+2).

1³ = (0) + 1 2³ = (2+4) + 2 3³ = (6+8+10) + 3 4³ = (12+14+16+18) + 4

It is found that all the cube numbers take any one of the forms either 9x ± 1 or 9 x. If the cube root n = (1+3m), where m is any integer, then its cube will always be in the form 9x +1,if n = (2+3m),the cube follows 9x-l. If n = 3m, the cube number will be perfectly divisible by 9.

n³ = 9x + l ; n = (l+3m) n³ = 9x – 1 ; n = (2+3m) } m = 0,1,2,3,4..... n³ = 9x ; n = 3m

All cube numbers can be denoted as the sum or difference of a multiple of ten and that number

2³ = 8 = 1(10) -2 3³ = 27 = 3(l1) -3 4³ = 64 = 6(10) + 4 5³ = 125 = 12(10) + 5 6³= 216 = 21(10) + 6 7³ =343 = 35(10) -7 8³ =512 = 52(10) -8 9³ = 729 = 72(10) + 9

We can delineate a cube number as the sum of a multiples of 6 and its root number, which predicts that n(n²-1) is always divisible by 6.

1³ = 0 x 6 + 1 2³ = 1 x 6 + 2 3³ = 4 x 6 + 3 4³ = l0 x 6 + 4 5³ = 20 x 6 + 5 6³ = 35 x 6 + 6

The multiplier of 6 for a root number n is the sum of the first n triangular numbers. The sum of numbers from 1 in natural series is called n th triangular number and is denoted by Tn .First few triangular numbers are 0,1,3,6,10,15,21,28..... In terms of T a cube number can be pressed out as

n³ = 6Σ Tn + n

If n is odd, the multiplier of 6 is always even. When n is singly even or odd multiples of 2,the multiplier of 6 is odd, and when n is doubly even i.e., even multiples of 2, the multiplier of 6 is even.

The cube numbers show yet another kind of regularity. They are all in the form of 7m ± l or 7m and exhibit it in a cyclic manner.

2³ = 7 x l + 1; 3³ = 7 x 4 – 1

7³ = 7 x49 + 0; 14³ = 7 x 392 + 0

4³ = 7 x 9 + 1; 5³= 7 x 18 – 1

8³ = 7 x 73 + 1 ; 6³ = 7 x 31 - 1

9³ = 7 x 104 + 1 ; 10³ = 7 x 143 – 1

The root numbers whose cube numbers are in the form of 7m ± 1 or 7m are repeating cyclically. The cube numbers of the root numbers (1+7x),(2+7x) and (4+7x) show the form 7m +l and (3 + 7x), (5+7x) and (6+7x) exhibit the form 7m –l where as 7x display the form 7m,where x is any integer.

The cubes of all even numbers (n) are perfectly divisible by 8 and the multiplier is an odd cube number, if n is singly even and an even cube number if n is doubly even.

2³ = 8 (1³) ; 4³ = 8 ( 2³)

6³ = 8 (3³) ; 8³ = 8 ( 4³)

10³ = 8 (5³) ; 12³ = 8 (6³)

If n is odd ,n³ can be expressed as a sum of some multiples of 8 and n.

1³ = 8(0) + l

3³ = 8 (3) + 3

5³ = 8(15) + 5

7³ = 8(42) + 7

9³ = 8(90) + 9

Here the multiplier of 8 for the given root number n is invariably divisible by n.

All odd cube numbers exhibit the following property- a sum of a multiple of 24 and its root number.

For odd n, n³ = 6 m + n = 8 p + n and hence they can be combined together to show that

n³ = 24 (z) + n.

3³ = 24 (1) + 3

5³ = 24 (5) + 5

7³ = 24 (17) + 7

9³ = 24 (30) + 9

11³= 24 (55) +11

Love is a invaluable gift given by God uniquely to all living beings for the existence of every species in the universe for ever.

2.Creative idea
(Remote controlled electrical sockets)

Sockets are electrical devices used for removably connecting electrically operated appliances to the power supply temporarily. If a remote control system is installed inside a single or a multi-
socket,it will be a new class of electrical device providing more advantages to users. With the help of external remote commander, one can make 'on-off ' operations of any electrically operating devices deriving power through this special socket. With a special multi-socket,two or more electrical appliances can be controlled simultaneously by having different operating channels.
With the help of this special socket, all electrical applinces at home without remote control in-built can be operated as if they were having its own remote control.
By improving the efficiency of the socket other functions like changing the brightness of light,speed of motor,temperature of the air-conditioned room can also be controlled. I conceived this ceative idea once when I slept at my bed without putting off the tuned FM radio.

3.Recreational mathematics

With four different digits one can construct the following numeral relation with equal sum of two squares.
2x2 + 9x9 = 7x7 + 6x6
Can you develop more relations with numbers having only these four digits ?
We can construct innumerable relations by simply suffixing or prefixing the digits/numbers in one side with the digits/numbers in the other side of the relation.
Prefixing the digits: 72 x 72 + 69 x 69 = 27 x 27 + 96 x 96
62 x 62 + 79 x 79 = 97 x 97 + 26 x 26
Prefixing the numbers:
2772 x 2772 + 9669 x 9669 = 7227 x 7227 + 6996 x 6996
9672 x 9672 + 2769 x 2769 = 6927 x 6927 + 7296 x 7296
9762 x 9762 + 2679 x 2679 = 6297 x 6297 + 7926 x 7926
2662 x 2662 + 9779 x 9779 = 7997 x 7997 + 6226 x 6226
It can be continued to get more and bigger relations. Enjoy and find something new !

1.A thought for a week

Imagination is more important than knowledge. Because knowledge is limited while imagination is unlimited. If knowledge is world,imagination will be universe, if knowledge is human, imagination will be divine,if knowledge is science,imagination will be arts, if knowledge is power, imagination will be super power,if knowledge is brutal king,imagination will be beautiful queen.

2.Recreational mathematics

Hai friends, you might have enjoyed the recreational mathematics of last issue and multiplied further. With 3 successive even numbers,we have

2x4x6 + 4x4 = 4x4x4; 4x6x8 + 6x4 = 6x6x6 and in general 2n x(2n+2m)x(2n+4m) + (2n+2m)x4 = 8 (n+m)x(n+m)x(n+m).

Answer to the problem given in the previous issue

The sum of all the digits in a block number 142857 =R= 1+4+2+8+5+7= 27. The sum of 182 digits in the sequence = 30 R + last two numbers,i.e., 30 x 27 + 1 + 4 = 815;

125 th digit is (20 R + five)digit which ends with 5; sum 1000 = 37 x27 +1,i.e., the last digit of the sequence is 1.

days;91/7 = 13R + 0.So it is Saturday. If the year is leap,it will be Sunday

Creative thoughts-1
(4 th July 2010)
1.A thought for a week
God is phonon like,cann't find outside, but exist within every one of us.We are searching him everywhere except where actually he is. God is virtual in the physical world and real in the spiritual world.

2.Recreational mathematics
A cube number can be obtained by multiplying any three successive numbers in natural series and adding the middle number with the product.
1x2x3 + 2 = 8 =2x2x2; 4x5x6 + 5 = 125 = 5x5x5 or in general (n-1)n(n+1) + n = nxnxn
This is what already we know.But there is treasure of pleasure when we go further.By taking
any three successive odd numbers,we have
3x5x7 +5x4 = 125 = 5x5x5; 5x7x9 +7 x 4 = 7x7x7 or in general(2n+1)x(2n+1+2m)x(2n+1+4m)
+(2n+l+2m)x2mx2m = (2n+1+2m)x(2n+1+2m).
Now you try with any three successive even numbers !

A number sequence is given below
142857142857142857...........
What is the sum of first 182 numbers ? What is the 125 th number ? If the sum is 1000,what is the last number of the sequence ?

This is my first blog through which I would like to interact with you all. I am a retired professor of Physics. I wrote 63 books in popular science both in Tamil and English. I have lot of informations to share with you all. Physics by fun, recreational mathematics, science and literature are few interesting topics to me. I think this window will help me to introduce my new books and get more ideas from you to write more books on different topics.
